Learn This Simple Fish Fry Recipe

Easy fish fry recipe that only takes minutes to prepare using basic ingredients. Learn how to fry fish by following these simple steps to cook your catches

If you're learning how to cook fish, be sure to add a fish fry recipe to your list of preparation methods. This recipe uses just a few basic ingredients that are easy to find at any grocery store or market.

Fish Fry Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 lbs flaky fish fillets (best fishes for fry recipe include flounder, catfish, or cod)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cup vegetable stock
  • 4 Tbsp of 2% milk
  • Optional: 1 Tbsp blackened seasoning (if you want your fried fish to have a little bit of kick)

Fish Preparation

  1. Cut the fish into strips and lightly pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. If want to learn how to fry fish in a pan, fill the pan with one inch of oil over medium-high heat and bring to temperature of 375 degrees. If using a deep fryer, add the recommended amount of oil for your fryer and heat to 375 degrees.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine eggs, 2 cups flour, vegetable stock and milk.
  4. Stir to combine and set aside.
  5. In a small shallow bowl, mix the remaining cup of flour with blackened seasoning or fish fry seasoning and set aside.

How to Fry Fish

  1. Toss fish strips into flour mixture, coating all sides.
  2. Shake off excess flour.
  3. Dip floured fish into the wet fish fry batter, making sure all sides are evenly covered.
  4. Using a pair of metal tongs, carefully place each coated fish strip into the hot oil (adding just a few fish pieces at a time, so you don’t overcrowd the pan).
  5. Fry the fish until the coating is brown and crispy on all sides (about 4 to 5 minutes).
  6. Remove the fish strips from the pan or fryer using a metal strainer, and place on a dry paper towel or wire rack.
  7. Let cool for 5 to 6 minutes, and then serve the best fried fish with either tartar sauce or lemon wedges.
