Learn how to tie a loop in fishing line using one of three different knots. Each type of fishing line loop knot has helpful uses you should know about

Do you want to know how to tie a loop in fishing line so that your lure or fly moves more freely? Or, maybe you want to know how to attach your fly fishing leader to your fly fishing line? Either way, learning how to tie a loop knot is a pretty darn important part of learning how to fish.

Right now you might be saying to yourself, "OK, well there are several different kinds of loop knots out there, how do I know which one to use?" The answer to that question isn't hard, it just depends the type of fishing you plan to do and what you want to accomplish.

Attaching Your Lure

If you want to know how to tie a loop in a fishing line to attach your fly or lure, just practice tying a non-slip loop knot. The non-slip loop knot allows your lure or fly to move more realistically through the water column because the knot isn't tight up against the eye of the lure or fly. The easiest way to learn how to tie a non-slip loop knot is by watching a video that visually guides you through each step. You can always replay the video until you get enough practice and have the knot mastered.

Attaching Your Fly Line to Leader

When you want to attach your fly line to your fly fishing leader, you can use a loop-to-loop connection called the perfection loop knot. The perfection loop knot is slim, straight, and strong. When you are ready to learn how to tie this type of fishing line loop, watch the perfection loop knot steps and then practice tying this knot on your own.

Fishing Two Flies or Multiple Hooks

If you want to fish using two different flies (to test one against the other) or fish using multiple hooks to increase your chances of a strike, an in-line dropper loop knot is another fishing line loop that is worth learning how to tie. You can find step-by-step instructions on how to tie the in-line dropper loop knot as well.

Rigging your flies, lures, and lines will be much easier when you know how to tie a fishing line loop like the non-slip loop, perfection loop, or in-line dropper loop.
