As one of the growing number of women who love boating and fishing, I'm always thinking about the most productive ways to spend my time so that I can be out on the water as often as possible while also balancing work and family commitments. I've found that attending fall boat shows is one of those ways because boat shows offer potential boat buyers the chance to compare, learn, network and take advantage of special pricing — all over the course of just a few days or a weekend.

If you are considering a new boat purchase or just want to learn more about how to boat, you may want to consider these seven reasons why it pays to attend fall boat shows.

  1. Boat shows provide the opportunity for you to look at many different makes and models of boats all in one place. You can better compare features, sizes and types of boats when you are able to see them in one place at the same time.

  2. You can speak directly with boat sellers or manufacturers at the show if you have questions.

  3. You can attend educational boating and fishing seminars. Most fall boat shows offer educational seminars that are included along with the price of your admission. Check with the local boat shows in your area to see which types of seminars are offered, and to confirm that the seminars are included in the admission price.

  4. Boat shows can be a good place to gain practical hands-on experience that you will need to feel comfortable around a boat. You'll usually find helpful boat demonstrations on boat safety, maneuvering a trailer, docking, and navigation.

  5. You can network with other boat owners and share information about your boating experiences. It's pretty hard to beat the camaraderie that is formed among those in the boating community.

  6. You learn about the latest advancements in marine electronics, boat safety gear and accessories.

  7. Boat manufacturers and sellers often offer boat show specials so you may be eligible for boat show discounts or reduced pricing as a result of attending.

Now that you know about the reasons why it pays off to attend a fall boat show or two, search for a list of boat shows in your local area, and then make plans to take the family along. You can also print off this helpful "Boat Buyer's Checklist" before you go so that you are prepared to ask the right questions before you buy.
