Ways to keep the National Fishing and Boating Week 2019 celebration going. Ideas for family trips, how to learn more about the sport, create family traditions

While you may hear people make the statement that, "all good things must come to an end," this isn't always the case. Sure, the final days of National Fishing and Boating Week 2019 are coming to a close, but you have the opportunity to keep the joy and excitement alive.

What specific things can you do to keep the National Fishing and Boating Week spirit going? Check out these suggestions.

  1. Check for upcoming free fishing days and ask a friend who hasn't yet experienced the fun of fishing to come along. For example, Florida is offering free freshwater fishing days on June 8th and 9th.
  2. Through the rest of June, celebrate Great Outdoors Month by making a commitment to take part in this month-long celebration of the outdoors and the healthful, social and economic benefits it brings. Go kayak fishing, hike to a quiet fishing spot, or take in the sights and sounds of nature on a sunset boat ride.
  3. Create your own family fishing holidays or traditions. One of the best things about a special family tradition is that you get to look forward to it every year. Plan an annual summer family fishing trip, make it a weekend ritual to watch the sunrise from a local fishing pier, or make a scrapbook of first catches that you all experienced together.
  4. Continue using our interactive "Places to Fish and Boat" map to find new fishing destinations. Make a list of "must-visit" spots in your local area.
  5. Keep putting safety first on the water, just as you did during fishing and boating week. Remember to wear your PFD, encourage others to wear a PFD, file a float plan, and make sure you have the required safety gear on your boat.
  6. Attend fishing and boating events throughout the year. While there are special events that run during National Fishing and Boating Week, don't forget that there are boat shows, boating safety classes, fishing clinics, and fishing seminars that are scheduled throughout the year.
  7. Set a goal to learn one new fishing skill per month. Use "how-to" videos or website content to help identify new techniques or fishing knots that you would like to know more about.
  8. Share your National Fishing and Boating Week 2019 memories on social media. Did you catch a new personal best fish this week? Or, maybe you went fishing with three of your closest friends? Spread the word on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and use the #GetYourFishOn hashtag.

In a nutshell, the best way to wrap up National Fishing and Boating Week 2019 is not to really wrap it up at all. Buy your state fishing license, pick up your tackle box, and get right back out there to see what's biting.
