  • 3 to 4-ounce fillets of firm, flaky white fish like snapper, cobia, or halibut
  • Pinch of kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup blackened seasoning blend
  • 2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tablespoons clarified butter (or substitute for 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil and 1 Tablespoon salted butter)

The little bit of kick from the blackened seasoning will warm you right up, making this one of the best winter fish recipes to try. Besides, if you're looking for fish recipes for kids that are different from all of the breaded and fried fish finger recipes out there, this is a tasty alternative.

Easy Fish Recipe Directions

Healthy meals for kids don't have to take a lot of time and prep. When it comes to simple fish dinner recipes, just follow the directions below. This blackened fish recipe will take you less than 15 minutes to make.

  1. Heat a cast iron skillet to high heat while you're preparing the fish. Pat fillets with a paper towel to dry, then lightly salt on both sides with kosher salt and cut into small pieces.
  2. Pour blackened seasoning blend and flour in a large re-sealable bag and mix well. Add pieces of fish, seal, and shake till fully coated. Set aside.
  3. Add the clarified butter to hot pan, allowing it to melt and get very hot. Carefully add fish pieces at high heat for about 1 minute per side in a well-ventilated area. Remove pieces and place on a paper towel to absorb the excess butter.
  4. One of the fish dinner ideas or serving suggestions for this recipe is to plate the blackened fish bites and serve them with a healthy vegetable.
