I recently got a holiday party invitation that gave me the shivers. The invitation was from a friend-of-a-friend who intended to do the right thing, but didn't really think things through. The party in question would be hosted by a couple who believe that fishing is a waste of time. Sounds fun, doesn't it? I’m still trying to think of a way to get out of it, and if you have any ideas please let me know.
I’m not going to pay that kind of bogus invitation forward. Instead, I’m going to pass out invitations to my landlocked, boot-wearing friends to come on out on my boat. It’d be a way to give them a different view of the water, and I hope they’ll come. A day on the boat will add a little variety to their fishing program, and that’s always a good thing.
I’m also going to invite some folks that don’t get to fish that often. A few of them, and we can go on a week day or at night. A little flexibility in scheduling is all that is needed, so I’ll remain elastic.
There are also few folks that have talked about getting back in to fishing. A number of them fished as kids and then as they got older they just drifted away. It’s time to get them back into the groove, so I’ll be sure to get them scheduled.
Lastly, but not least, there are some folks that have never gone fishing. Based on the fact that I technically live on an island that is surrounded with such a wide variety of fish, from trout to tuna, they have never caught ‘em up. They’re the ones that need a bunch of different invitations.
