Common dacron fishing line knots you need to know. Learn the best knots for dacron fishing line to leader, fly line, or terminal tackle.

Dacron is a type of braided line that is composed of polyester fibers weaved together. It’s most often used for offshore fishing styles such as trolling, bottom fishing, or targeting large fish like sharks and tuna.

Dacron fishing line knots can be used to secure braided line to reels and to connect braided line to leader. Dacron is sometimes used as a backing for the main line in both conventional gear and fly gear or, in some cases, dacron is used as the main line and is connected to a fishing line leader such as fluorocarbon or monofilament. Here are some of the most common dacron fishing line knots you need to know.

  • Albright Knot: Use for connecting fly line to braided line backing
  • Double Uni Knot: Use for connecting braided line to a leader
  • Blood Knot: Use for connecting braided line to a leader
  • Palomar Knot: Use for connecting braided line or leader to terminal tackle
  • Improved Clinch Knot: Use for connecting braided line to swivel or hook or fly to leader line

The best dacron fishing line knots are those that won’t slip easily as braided line tends to be softer. Wet the line when tying for extra-tight cinching power. Many anglers use dacron fishing line because it is extremely strong and resists stretching. It has high sensitivity which allows for quick response to strikes. One downside is that dacron fishing line can have a thicker diameter and takes up considerably more space on your reel compared to other types of braided lines.

When paired with the right fishing knots, dacron is a great, versatile option for most fishing needs. Learn how to tie knots every angler should know or look for a specific knot using the search bar at the top of our website. Tight lines and trusty knots!
