Bobber Stopper Fishing Knot

You can use a bobber stopper fishing knot, also sometimes referred so as a float stopper knot, to prevent your bobber or float from sliding up on your main fishing line. The knot is secured to your main fishing line at the location you want the bobber to stop given the depth of water you want to fish.
 

The bobber stopper knot is one of the most common types of fishing knots that are used when freshwater fishing for panfish or walleye, and when rigging lines for ice fishing. This is a good knot to learn how to tie because when your bait starts to settle at the desired depth, the bobber slides up the fishing line, but then stops when it hits the knot.

In other words, the fishing bobber stop knot allows for a deeper presentation of bait, and ensures that your main line won't stop at the bobber when you make a cast.

How to Tie a Bobber Stopper Knot

When you want to tie a bobber stopper knot, you will just need about 6-inches of monofilament fishing line or Dacron fly line backing to use for your stopper line. From there, all you have to do is follow these steps:

1. Lay the stopper line against the fishing line at chosen point and double back to forming a loop.
2. Hold the loop where the stopper line crosses over itself and the fishing line.
3. Make three or four turns around both lines, passing through the open loop each time.
4. Pull the two ends in opposite directions to tighten down the knot.
5. Trim the tag ends of the stopper line.
6. Slip the bobber onto your main fishing line below the knot.

Once you slip the bobber onto your main fishing line, all you have to do is tie on a hook and then add a split shot or two a few inches above your hook if needed.
