Boating Safety classes
One day class qualifies students for their Connecticut Boat and Personal Watercraft Certificate.
Private classes also available at your home, organization, or facility.
Classes throughout Connecticut.
Sailors with more experience are encouraged to compete in regattas around Long Island Sound.
Includes sail theory, advanced boat handling skills, crew overboard recovery and much more.
In these classes sailors learn to sail as a team, alternating as either Skipper or Crew, handling a main sail and jib.
Sailors learn navigational skills in preparation for a required JSA Navigation Test, participate in a Safety-at-Sea seminar, and at the end of the summer compete in 3 big-boat regattas including the Beach Point Overnight Race.
This class is for intermediate or advanced racers ages 14 to 17.
The focus is on perfecting boat handling skills; learning advanced racing techniques and rules, as well as racing strategy.
This course covers all aspects of safe boating and Personal Watercraft.
The course is for beginners who have little or no sailing experience, as well as for children who participated in the Sprite Optimist program and are of required minimum age.
These sailors are generally a little older than the Opti I sailors, have one or two years of experience sailing in an Opti, as well as a good knowledge of basic sailing, water safety, rigging and the points of sail.
This class will focus on advanced boat handling skills, learn and practice race tactics and rules.
This class is ideal as a transition boat for junior sailors ready to learn about jibs and symmetrical spinnakers.
The Racing Club420 program picks up where the Non-Racing program ends, teaching skipper and crew the use of spinnakers and trapeze, and tactics used in team racing.
Sailors in this program compete in home and away regattas.
