Washington Fishing Licenses Requirements

From freshwater lakes to the Pacific coast, Washington offers diverse fishing opportunities for all anglers. But before you can enjoy some of the nation’s top spots, you’ll need to make sure you follow Washington’s fishing license rules.

In Washington, everyone ages 15 and older needs a recreational fishing license. There are several exemptions to this rule. These exceptions include:

  • Youth 14 and younger
  • Adults assisting youth if they are not fishing/harvesting themselves
  • Anglers fishing on the state’s free fishing weekend, which is always the first weekend after the first Monday in June

Even if you’re not required to have a license, keep in mind that all the other rules apply, such as catch record card requirements. Depending on where you plan to fish and the species, you’re after, you may also need an endorsement.
