The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) established the National Youth Fishing & Boating Initiative in 2008 to build on its boating and fishing education outreach efforts. Nine organizations received grants in 2008.
FY 2009 Grant Recipients:
- C.A.S.T. for Kids
– designs, manages and hosts events for disabled or disadvantaged children across the country.
- FishHer
– Fishing Gear for Women – designs, educates and empowers girls who are actively involved in the Girl Scouts of the USA, and are new to the sport of fishing, boating and aquatic education.
- Future Fisherman Foundation
- helps public, private and charter schools incorporate the benefits and rewards of fishing and/or boating activities into their school curriculum through its PhyshEd program.
- Junior Anglers & Hunters of America, Inc.
– provides a mobile classroom and volunteers to introduce recreational boating and fishing to the largest concentration of children in Texas, who have little or no contact with outdoors experiences and recreational activities due to various socio-economic factors.
- Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region
– provides experiential, hands-on programs that promote safe boating, responsible fishing practices and conservation principles to youth in underserved areas of Washington, DC.
- National Recreation & Park Association
(NRPA) - builds and sustains fishing and boating programs through its Take Me Fishing Initiative in park and recreation facilities across the country.
- National Youth Marine Alliance
– provides hands-on community based conservation service projects to preserve and protect America’s lakes, streams, rivers and shorelines.
- Spirit of America Foundation
– provides hands-on boating education, water safety instruction and introduction to many activities for the environmental protections.
- YMCA of Metropolitan Minneapolis
– increases fishing activities through YMCA camps and youth programs.
